Jakarta, April 7, 2018 - Jakarta Property Institute (JPI), in collaboration with Jakarta Berlari, held a running event called "Ciliwung Punya Kita". The event, which was held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, included around 100 runners, including DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno.
Through this event, runners try a 5 kilo meter route along the Ciliwung river while passing through a part of Jakarta that is full of history, culture and stories. The run starts from the Proclamation Monument and finishes at DKI Jakarta City Hall.
JPI executive director Wendy Haryanto said JPI, which also represents Jakarta residents, wants to build Jakarta into an international city. The majority of respected international cities have water bodies that are well used for the benefit of their citizens.
Jakarta has a Ciliwung River that has been the lifeblood of Jakarta's history and economy for a long time. JPI invites residents to reacquaint themselves with the river that is part of the city, restore the function of the city's pulse, and return ownership of the city to its citizens.
"Running or walking is a very human way to get to know an area, so in order to build a healthy body and mind, we also invite people to enjoy the city by introducing running trails through the heart of the city and other historical locations," Wendy explained.
Sandiaga, who leads an active lifestyle and often runs with the Jakarta Berlari community, said this event was an initial effort to bring residents closer to their city. "So far, Ciliwung has long been forgotten by Jakartans. This is a good initiative for us to reacquaint ourselves with the river. I also invite Jakarta Berlari friends to run along the Ciliwung," Sandiaga said.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Berlari representative Roestiandi Tsamanov said the "Ciliwung Punya Kita" event was also a celebration of Jakarta Berlari's second anniversary. "I hope Jakarta Berlari's second anniversary celebration can inspire Jakarta residents in general and especially residents around the Ciliwung River to care and protect the Ciliwung River environment."
Jakarta Berlari itself supports the running program with a route along the Ciliwung so that runners can have alternative routes for activities and exercise besides the current popular route, namely the Car Free Day (CFD) lane.
