Here's how good it is to live in an apartment

November 2, 2020

Hello urbanites

If we look at aerial view photos of Jakarta, it turns out that this city does not look as dense as Singapore. The reason is that most Jakartans still live in landed houses rather than apartments.

Living in an apartment is not yet popular with the people of Jakarta, but there are many interesting things that can be found in apartments that cannot be found in landed housing. What are the highlights of living in an apartment?

1.Close to the city center

Many apartments in Jakarta are close to business centers and offices. The location of the apartment is usually strategic, which is close to the office, close to our favorite malls, close to entertainment venues and hangouts.

This advantage makes our travel time everywhere shorter so we can have quality time with ourselves, family or friends. We can go to the salon after work, shopping or just window shopping. In addition, we can have dinner with family or just hang out with friends.

"Maybe I want to live in an apartment because I've lived in landed houses and apartments before. I feel that living in an apartment is simple, close to work and hassle-free." (Kumala, 25 years old)

2.Practical

If there is damage, for example a broken water tap, a broken toilet or a leak in the bedroom, we can immediately ask for help from thebuilding management. A technician will be sent directly to the unit according to the damage.

If you live in a landed house, it's a hassle to find your own technician. With different damages, of course, the technician will be different. Not to mention if the technician will charge an expensive price for the repair fee.

"I would prefer to live in an apartment, because if you live in a landed house, you have to fix this and that within a certain period of time, such as leaking roof tiles, cracked walls, broken pumps, and so on. Whereas in an apartment, if there is damage, you can ask the manager to find a service person who is already familiar with the manager, so it's simpler." (Steven, 26 years old)

3.Minimalist

Nowadays, our lifestyle has become more mobile. So, we move more often from one place to another, for work or other reasons. Apart from being mobile, we are also faced with working hours that require us to work from morning to night. This leaves little time to relax where we live.

Living a more dynamic life, we don't need a large space to live in. We also need less furniture and houseware , since we don't spend much time in our living space.

"I really want to live in an apartment because I'm still actively working. It's good because it's simpler, why not have a big residence. And the workplace also moves, of course the place to live also moves" (Andy, 25 years old).

4.One-stop living concept

Most apartments have minimarket facilities, green parks, children's playgrounds, jogging tracks, exercise rooms, laundry, clinics and so on. Of course, we can use all the facilities either for free or by subscription. So we can do many activities at one time.

For example, on weekend mornings, you can take your basket of dirty clothes to the laundry on the ground floor and exercise at the jogging track or just sit in the fresh air at the park. After exercising, we can take a break at the convenience store to buy breakfast.

Apart from being practical, this lifestyle also helps the sustainability of the earth by reducing the carbon footprint.

"I'm really happy to live in an apartment, all activities can be done together. It really saves time. On weekdays, I can exercise in the morning, and in the afternoon when I get home from work, I can immediately pick up the laundry and go to the unit. No need to transit to other places for laundry" (Rizkina, 26 years old)

5.As required

If you notice, humans have space requirements that go up and down according to their living status. When we are single, we only need a little space to live in. But when we get married and even have children, we need more space because we have more activities. Interestingly, when our children have gone to college or decided to live independently, our space needs will decrease and get smaller.

In addition, apartments have a flexible choice between renting or buying. So that we can choose, the space needs we need with the choice of living between renting or buying an apartment unit. Therefore, apartments will be a solution for today's lifestyle.

"I'll continue to live in an apartment while we're still together. It's good because it's simpler. But I might move when I have kids to a bigger place. So, renting/buying isn't a problem because I don't think I'll live 30 years in the same place." (Fajar, 30 years old)

Although living in an apartment is appealing, many people are still hesitant to live there. One of the problems is the unaffordable price and the cramped design of the building.

Therefore, let us support all efforts of all parties, especially the DKI Jakarta government, to make apartments more affordable and in accordance with the needs of workers.

Let's make Jakarta more liveable!
