According to TomTom Traffic Index 2023, Jakarta currently ranks as the 30th most congested city in the world out of 387 cities in 55 countries across 6 continents. The previous year, Jakarta's position was not much different, which was ranked 29th.
Based on previous data on this index, Jakarta's congestion level has decreased. This can be seen in the data comparison where in 2018 Jakarta's congestion ranked as the 7th most congested city in the world.
Seeing Jakarta's position on the index, of course the Jakarta congestion problem needs to be addressed with high urgency. Therefore, the DKI Provincial government continues to work hard to realize solutions to congestion in Jakarta through the integration of Jakarta transportation.
What is transportation integration?
According to the European Local Transport Information Service(ELTIS), transportation integration is a process that aims to make travel using different modes of transportation more convenient and efficient.
Transportation mode integration can facilitate the convenience and comfort of travel using two or more different modes of transportation. Transportation integration is one indicator of improving the quality of public transportation facilities in a city and has a direct effect on the level of public transportation use in the city.
What is the state of BRT, LRT and MRT integration in Jakarta?
Currently, Jakarta's transportation integration has improved. This is marked by the integration of Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Jakarta LRT, and Jakarta MRT. The integration of BRT, LRT and MRT Jakarta includes lines, stops and stations, payment methods, and integration tariffs. In addition, the presence of BRT passing through the Jakarta MRT Station, both elevated and underground lines, is another form of integration of BRT, LRT and MRT in Jakarta.
One form of Jakarta transportation integration that has been implemented is in the Dukuh Atas area, Sudirman. In Dukuh Atas there is Sudirman KRL Station, BNI City KRL Station, Dukuh Atas MRT Station, Dukuh Atas LRT Station and Dukuh Atas 2 Transjakarta Shelter. All stations and shelters in the Dukuh Atas area have been integrated so that people can feel convenience, comfort and safety when changing modes of transportation.
The perceived convenience includes the many signposts that allow passengers to switch modes appropriately. The convenience in question is a situation where all passenger movements are well organized so that they do not mix with two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. Then, security is also maintained through the availability of security officers on guard around the integration area as well as station and bus stop officers who are ready to serve passengers.
By offering convenience, comfort and safety in using public transportation, Jakarta transportation integration can be a solution to Jakarta's congestion. Jakarta residents who previously used private vehicles are expected to slowly switch to using public transportation, reducing the high number of private vehicles that make Jakarta congested.
So, are you ready to take advantage of public transportation integration in Jakarta? Let's switch to using public transportation to help solve Jakarta's congestion problem. Together, we can make a change!
